Amman – Jordan: The General Assembly of Taawon (Welfare Association) convened its 43rd annual meeting in Amman, attended in person and via Zoom by members of the Board of Directors and the executive management, as part of their regular meeting. The meeting aimed to review the organization's achievements for the year 2025 and discuss future plans.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Nabil Qaddumi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, emphasized that despite the difficult circumstances faced by the Palestinian people, Taawon successfully continued to deliver its diverse programs throughout 2025. These efforts aimed to support Palestinian citizens across all areas of operation. Dr. Qaddumi noted that the past year saw the strengthening of existing programs and the development of new initiatives to meet the needs of citizens in Palestine and Palestinian communities in Lebanon. This approach carefully balanced urgent humanitarian needs with recovery priorities and long-term development goals, while adapting to the changing realities on the ground.
Dr. Qaddumi also highlighted the growing efforts to mobilize funding, expand the network of partners and supporters, and diversify fundraising tools, including crowdfunding. Additionally, various activities and initiatives were launched in different countries to raise awareness about Taawon and secure funding for its programs. He reaffirmed the Board's commitment to enhancing Taawon’s sustainability by developing its resources, investing in youth, upgrading internal systems, and embracing digital transformation, all while maintaining robust governance and oversight systems.
In addition, Mr. Saad Abdul-Hadi, Chairman of the General Assembly, reviewed the growth achieved in the assembly's membership over the past year, thanks to the efforts of the Membership and Governance Committee. This expansion included the addition of 19 new members with distinguished expertise from various geographic regions, with substantial representation of youth and women.
Mr. Abdul-Hadi expressed his gratitude to the assembly members for their active role throughout the year in advancing the institution’s goals and advancing the organization's work. He also highlighted Taawon’s success in expanding its global reach through its sister organizations in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as through the activation of regional member working groups in various countries.
During the meeting, the administrative and financial annual report for 2025 was reviewed, highlighting achievements made across different programs despite the significant challenges faced, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
The report indicated that Taawon allocated approximately $37 million to support its various programs during the year. The General Assembly approved the administrative and financial report and endorsed PwC as Taawon’s external auditor for 2026.
Furthermore, Taawon’s standing committees presented their progress reports and recommendations for improving performance during the current term. This included the work of the Audit and Compliance Committee, the Investment Committee, and the Membership and Governance Committee. These reports focused on developing institutional policies, strengthening governance, and improving financial and administrative efficiency. A brief presentation was also given on the achievements of the specialized task forces supporting the Board of Directors, which contribute to institutional and programmatic development across various tracks.
The Executive Management then presented the programmatic work plan for 2026 across its different operational areas, along with its estimated budget. The plan outlines anticipated interventions for relief, recovery, and development in the fields of education and health, youth empowerment, institutional support, and social welfare.
As part of the meeting agenda, Taawon had the honor of hosting Her Excellency Dr. Maryam Bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar. Her Excellency reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast stance in supporting the Palestinian people and strengthening their resilience. She stressed the importance of continued humanitarian and developmental work to preserve Palestinian dignity and support their rights, while confirming Qatar's commitment tosupporting Taawon’s orphan-care and university-education programs in Gaza.
Taawon also hosted Mr. Issam Hijazi, founder of the digital platform UpScrolled, who highlighted the importance of social media in supporting the Palestinian narrative and the vital role that unrestricted digital platforms play in achieving this. He shared his vision on the integration of roles between community work and the private sector in light of the global digital transformation trend.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of Taawon’s commitment in pursuing its humanitarian and national mission, and to strengthening partnerships and cooperation to face the growing challenges experienced by Palestinians both at home and in the diaspora.
